Dave's sister-in-law passed away yesterday. She had been in the hospital again last week but went home. We just talked to her a few days ago and she was really having trouble breathing. Dave is flying back tomorrow but I am staying here. My aunt is here now and my mom is on her way. I had to jump through lots of hoops to get my mom to come this year and I didn't want to change everything on her now. I was afraid see would just nix it all together. I'm feeling torn between staying here for my mom and coming back for Dave's brother, but he says he understands.
Tomorrow I am doing a 16 mile run and really dreading it! It's so much better to do with you all. I've really slowed down now that the heat and humidity have returned….not complaining though! I really wish that it would have worked out for me to come back too so I could get a run in with the sole sisters. J
Jean so sorry to hear about your sister in law. I heard her name on the radio this am and wondered if it was her. Hopefully your mom will enjoy the warm weather and having a break from this cold and snowy winter. Ran tonight and it was the first time in a long time that there was no wind but unfortunately it was slick. We are scheduled for 14 this weekend and sounds like it going to be nasty with snow. Kent is skiing in Colorado and they are getting lots of snow in the mountains. So he is going to have a long haul to get home this weekend. I encouraged him to just stay put till the storm is over. They had 16 inches today and it was still snowing. Mountain pass is closed from 8 pm till 8 am to work on trying to prevent avalanches. So enjoy your hot weather. It may have to be a photo op weekend for us.
Jean, so sorry to hear about your sister in law. I hope you have a good visit with your Mom and Aunt. the weather is awful here, I think we are all dreading 14 in snow and sleet. It would have been a crappy weekend for you to join us for a run, although we'd love to have seen you. so Jeri votes for tomorrow, I would rather get it over with tomorrow too as long as the roads don't get too bad tonight.
Very sorry to hear about your SIL, Jean. Read her obit in the paper last night. Glad your mom is getting out of town before this next round of weather hits.
Just read the forecast so I guess we'll have to see what actually transpires. I was looking forward to running in snow but do not feel the same about ice. Karen and I had texted about the two of us going 10-11 instead of the 14. My max has been 10 so don't really feel like jumping straight to 14. I would be available on Sunday if the roads are icy in the am.
Well, Dave is not going to make it back and my mom didn't make it here. All flights were cancelled. I'm still trying to make arrangements for mom to get here, but I can't even get through to talk to someone and can't do it online. We had a huge storm here yesterday and it seems you are having one there today.
I did my 16 this morning and it wasn't as bad as I was anticipating. I am sore this afternoon though and pretty much feel like I'm done for the day! Cheryl, you are getting up there in mileage, have you decided to do a full? Have a safe run tomorrow. J
Jean, so sorry to learn about your sister-in-law. I know it had been touch and go for a while. Sorry the weather is keeping your family from being together esp during such a tough time. The weather has become more than an inconvenience. How many 20s are in your schedule Jean? We did sled pushes at x fit and my chest arms hurt so much it hurts to run. Anyway... I would just as soon run tomorrow if possible. Then it is off the list or Sunday is available if needed due to tomorrow's weather. Hard to believe Jean does like the heat and humidity while we grumble about the cold and snow. I guess we just need to decide plan A and plan B and how we will communicate with each other any changes. If we brave it tomorrow, definitely a photo op.
so are we on for tomorrow? is everyone going to check blog, or email in the morning? What time, and where do we meet? Does heartland group still leave from the park at 6:05? (damn, that's early...if roads are sketchy, I'll be leaving my house at 5:15!ugh!) I guess I'll check back tonight before I go to bed, (early!), and tomorrow, before I leave.....or we can text each other..Angie
Let's plan on running with Heartland leaving Washington Park at 6:05. Don't forget dry clothes and lights. Check the blog and/or text if you aren't going to make it. If we cancel a Sunday run can be the back up plan. I'll leave at 5:15 too Angie.
Just got home from the Shinn family birthday party that my husband misses almost every year due to his ski trip. Nephew's new baby was there and so sweet. The roads were better than when I went to the party at 6 pm. Not clear though but didn't look like it had snowed anymore. Hardly anyone out and about. Absolutely no wind and very peaceful out. Hopefully it will stay this way and not be the calm before the storm. I had a text from Kent at about 430 pm and they were almost to the Colorado/Kansas border and the roads had been snow packed but better than they had anticipated. They too have heard forecast for the overnight and are worried about sleet. Going to bed shortly after getting things together. Will check in am.
We are on the way to Jess'. I see Cheryl is heading north too. Jess has our route all mapped out. I'm hoping the beauty of the trail compensates for snow I expect to run in. Be safe and warm. See you next week.
have fun Jeri! sounds like you might be more evenly matched with your running partner this weekend. see you next weekend. Jean, you have no idea how much fun you're missing out running in a foot of snow. haha
Miss you too Jean! I've been a slacker with running in this weather. It is up to 40 today but I think I heard we are supposed to get another couple of inches of snow tonight.
jean, I think if we could all hop on a plane, we'd be packing our bags so we could join you tomorrow for our long run! It has snowed again all morning, adding I'd guess 3-4 more inches on top of what we already had! ugh. seriously, I'd really like to have onw Saturday with decent roads and temperatures. calling for more tomorrow. fml. Angie
I'd start a new post but I'm missing the links to do so. Not sure what has happened. There used to be a link for New Post at the top of the page but that link is gone. I'll try at home tonight on my laptop and see if it's any different.
Update from Doug on HRRC run: ADDEDUM: The 4” snowfall this Friday morning and the forecast for bone chilling overnight lows of -2 with 5 to 10 mph SW winds are combining to make it less than ideal for a 13-mile run, sp I am cancelling the 13-miler. The forecast for Sunday is 20 degrees warmer than today, under partly cloudy skies, so plan on doing your long run Sunday afternoon on your own. It is too cold (-20 windchill) running on icy streets with no sidewalk option in traffic for me to suggest anyone run for 2 hours in those conditions.
I would be available on Sunday and promise I will not back out!
YIPPEE. I have internet but who knows how long it will last. Will be gone for the evening. I can run either day and either in Hannibal or Quincy. If a decision is made can someone text me. Thanks.
Crap... just deleted my post before I sent it. You know it's bad when Doug cancels. I am available either day too. Looks like Sunday will be warmer and maybe the roads will be cleared better. I'm ok with Hannibal or Quincy. Angie... Karen... how 'bout you guys? Jean we miss running with you but I bet all wish we were together running where you are and not here. This is really getting old.
