How is everyone's runs this week? Sound like Chicago Marathon is going to have cool temps! Yeah for those running it. Who is running this weekend? My schedule shows 6 miles but I think I will do 8. Will probably sign up for the Hamilton to Nauvoo half marathon this week. things have been hectic for our family with my parents health issues. My Dad fell last week and fractured his pelvis and is currently on rehab unit at Blessing and seems to be making progress. My Mom was already scheduled to have her third stent so both of them were in the hospital yesterday but Mom went home today. They were unable to do a mesh stent and had to do just the balloon so now my Mom is stressing about it but I just have to reassure her that the doctor said it was the best option for her at this time. That's the highlights and looking forward to a quiet weekend. I still have not received the book I ordered for book club so may need to check for cliff notes for our meeting on Monday night.
Jean-Thanks so much for dropping off your book. I had sent an email trying to find out what happened to the one I ordered and the reply was it was shipped on 9/16 so it must be lost. Should be a good weekend to read.
Kent is thinking about building a fire tonight. I carried in wood on Wednesday night due to the forecast. Glad I did. Good exercise too.
Perfect night for a fire! Well, we all missed the opportunity to run the Chicago Marathon in cool weather. Go figure! We aren't going out of town after all, so I am running 12 or 13 tomorrow. Cindy said that Angie and Karen are doing 20, so I was thinking of starting at 7. Last week I ran along the shore and the first half was great, but then it started poring and I ran 10 miles in that. It was pretty miserable and by the last few miles the trails were beginning to be covered with water. The only good thing was that I realized I could do a long run in awful weather! Hope that's not the case in Indie! J
Karen and I are running our 20 starting in Hannibal and ending near the fountain on front street. plan on being done 9:30ish, although I have an awful cold so it could be later. we are planning to do breakfast, and walk through the Sammy fund art/craft show on the square that starts at 10:00. we wil have our cellphones on us. Thymes Square anyone? Angie
I am on the way to Jess' house so will not be running in Qcy this weekend. Guess I missed everyone last weekend but I still ran to Hannibal and topped it off with a sticky bun from JAva Jive. Did anyone else notice that the flyer for the River run says nothing about shuttling runners to the start or finish points. I have never run a point to point race that doesn't do that but I haven't seen any reference to that. I'll check the blog to see what everyone's plans are for next weekend. I am really struggling getting motivated in this interim between training schedules. Mine may be a walk/run on the river! Have a great run. Jeri
I will plan on being at Thymes Square around 9:30 too. Text when you're done. Has anyone signed up for the Nauvoo run yet? I'm having second thoughts only because I need to get in my last long run that day. I was thinking I'd do 7 when I finished it, but that probably isn't the greatest idea - especially if it's point to point. J
Angie-Do I understand correctly that you are going to run from Hannibal to Quincy???? I haven't decided on running at 6 am when I have only 8 to do unless motivated to run and then do errands. I will plan on meeting at Thymes Square at 9:30 either way. And the big decision is what to wear-fear I will overdress.
I'm headed to StL late morning so will miss out on breakfast. Will probably do my run around 7. Only going 8 though. Need to get my garmin to Greta before 9 as she is running the Sammie Run. Good runs everyone. Let me know about next weekend. I have the form but haven't signed up yet. I have signed up for the Indie half though!
Cindy, hope your parents are improving. How's Melissa doing? Still looking at the end of this month?
yes Cindy, we are crazily running from Riverview park in Hannibal to just past the Mary statue on front street. left my car parked there tonight and rode home with Tom. planted some extra water and Gatorade outside Marblehead on the way home, hope it doesn't freeze! we will call you guys when we get to my car. we are hoping for 9:30 or so.Angie
FYI re: the river run. I sent an email to an address I found. If they don't shuttle from one point to the other, I also am having 2nd thoughts. It will be a real pain to get a car to the finish in order to get a ride back to the start if no shuttle. I'll let you know if I hear anything...haven't yet. I am most anxious to hear about Angie and Karen's run. Ran in the I & M Canal trail today. Great place to run, lots of deer, cranes and other assorted wild life. Great weather too! Jeri
Jeri, our run was fun and interesting since it was all new. I think we are going to do the same route again for our next twenty. (probably much to the dismay of mama Jean and mama Cindy!!) Angie
You can add this mama to the list. I was worried about you two running that route also - especially at 6 in the morning. Glad to hear you made it safely and had fun! I've been reading some random Chicago marathon blog entries today from those who ran yesterday and it has brought back lots of memories. Can't wait to see what you guys do in Indie!
Glad the Saturday run went well but I think you guts are as crazy running on Hwy 57 as some of the things I have ever done! I found an entry on the Facebook page for the Great River Run that says there will be shuttles back to the start. That website and the registration says it starts at 8; the original registration from says 7. Now they have added bicycles. I can picture it all now; bikes, strollers, runners, walkers, all making a pilgramage to the Morman temple in Nauvoo. What is everyone's plans for Sat? Jeri
Angie and I did have fun Saturday. Angie had to pull me thru the last 6 miles, as I was struggling. We got it done and kept our race pace, so we were happy. It sounds like this race might be a little disorganized this year, but I will run it anyway! So it sounds like the start is 8am. Who all still wants to run it?
Jeri, I'm still laughing about your comment on the pilgrimage to the temple! I've decided not to run the River Run. I want to get my 20 miles in this weekend - looking forward to the taper after that! J
I am planning on running as well, esp as I will be running in Washington DC next weekend. For those of us crazy enough to make the pilgrimage do we want to meet somewhere and then drive to Hamilton together? I can take 4 - 5 if we squeeze- in my car. Cheryl are you running. Jeri
count me in. wonder if there will be any Mormons in their special underwear running with us trying to convert us all. someone name a time and place, I have to register that morning. Angie
I'm still in also. My vehicle also holds five people. I also have to register that morning! Let me know where to meet and if I need to drive, that works. I do not know where Hamilton is, but I have a Garmin and I am guessing someone knows the general location!
Let's meet at Washington park and leave at 6:30. This should get us to Hamilton by 7:15 easily...it is about 35 miles. I think I know where we are going but don't know what parking will be like. I also will register Saturday morning. Cindy talked to one of the organizers about it today and that person described it as chaotic...so we are in for an adventure! I'll have a full tank and plan to drive unless someone else's car looks bigger. I won't bring the convertible! See you Saturday morning. Jeri
Have you all heard the forecast for tomorrow morning? I am concerned -now predicting 50% chance of rain showers with possibly of thunderstorms. Hope it means the weatherman is wrong as usual. Jean-did you do your long run today? Has anyone seen a race report from Doug. I did not see an email about training run for this weekend. We continue to have internet issues.
Jeri-parade of bands is next weekend. I will understand that those of you who are not signed up for this run and if it is storming in the morning if you choose to pass on it. I did check accuweather and it looked like they are not forecasting bad weather in the morning so hoping it will be ok.
Cindy - I'll try to get Doug's race report to you. I'm not dedicated enough to run in rain and scared to run in thunderstorms. I didn't think the rain was supposed to hit until afternoon. I'm going to meet you at Washington Park but planning to drive up myself. I'm headed out of town as soon as I get home from run so won't be able to stick around and grab breakfast.
Cheryl, I think it will be more like lunch before we would get back to Quincy! My interpretation of the weather is possible rain during the night and then again tomorrow afternoon/evening. I will plan to being at the Washington Park for the adventure. Jeri
Saw a couple 1st places amoung the group. Congrats Cindy and Jeri and kudos to all of you for running in the rain. It doesn't take much to get me to skip a run anymore. I did take off today and got 8 in on a beautiful fall day plus the yard mowed.
Will miss running Saturday as need to attend visitation. Also need to get some things done as the due date is looming ever so close. Baby's name has been confirmed-Emmalee Louise. And it sounds like our son in law, Matt, is nesting. He has been cleaning and cooking up a storm. I don't remember his father in law doing that. Melissa's due date is 10/27. My guess is 10/22. Matt's guess is 10/20 and Melissa is predicting 11/2. Good luck on your training this weekend especially Angie and Karen. Keep safe.
Cindy, I love the baby's name! Did you tell me it's a family name? I am going to have to miss meeting the group tomorrow too. I haven't made any of the boy's football games yet and this will be my last chance. I have 12 miles to do so will try to get that in first. Only 12! Yea!! Angie and Karen, be careful! J
Melissa goes back to doctor on Friday. Baby has dropped and she said she is at the waddling stage. She is having some braxton hicks but no regular contractions and feeling of pressure and backache. She going to work tomorrow but is taking Friday off and will see what her physician says. Her OB doctor told her would induce once she is a week past her due date but another OB doc told her possibly would recommend inducing by Monday 10.29 but will just have to wait and see. I still have things to do so next week is ok with grandma but they are ready.
Checking in on running plans for Sat. The Jog and Java group is running a 4-5 mile Halloween run from someone's house starting at 7 on Sat. morning. I can post the information is people are interested. I also wanted to propose a 10 miles run (I thought that would be about right for the last taper). We could meet in Hannibal and run to my house (hilly with 1 huge hill) for breakfast and I'll take you back to your cars. Or we can reverse the route and start at my house and run to Java Jive for carmel rolls. Still hilly by we get to run down...not up... the huge hill. it is one of my favorite runs and should be pretty with the leaves. If this interests anyone let me know. If not, I'll watch the post for plans. Looking forward to seeing everyone before you are marathon/half marathon bound. Jeri
Very exciting, Grandma! Are you just going to take off once you get the word? Jeri, I like your idea. I was not planning on doing the group run since it's only 4-5 miles. I would be ok with either, although I like the idea of running down rather than up the big hill! Angie, Karen and Cheryl, we need to talk about our plans. I thought I would love the taper, but it seems strange not doing so much running. (Angie, you may not agree with this!) J
I too like the idea of running FROM your house, although I don't know where that is, and don't want to get lost and run more- heaven forbid! I'm actually feeling like maybe I'm not running enough (no- you say), and that I should run more....intended to this week but Tom is out of town, will start training I guess next week. What a dumbass. Angie
Looks like running FROM my house to Hannibal is ahead in the polls. There are not streetlights so you'll need headlamps if we start much before 7. I'm good with anytime but wanted to remind you about lights! The route into Hannibal is easy and some of it will be familiar so no one should get lost!Directions to my house from Hannibal: Turn right at Tom Boland Ford onto Hwy 168. Drive 4-5 miles (go past Bayview and Bleigh Construction) and turn left onto CR 402 at the Riverview Manufacturing sign. Go .8-1 mile to the first drive on the right (there will be another Riverview Manufacturing sign) and go through the gate and up the hill. At the top of the hill turn left back into the woods until you see the cabin. If you want directions from Quincy let me know and I'll post. I'll leave cars in Hannibal so we can come back and get your cars after the run and breadfast. Just post if this is OK and what time to start so I can have the gate unlocked. I'll check again tomorrow night to see if this is the plan and start time or if a differnt route is desired. Looks like it will be cool, but hopefully dry and not windy. Jeri
Let's start around 7 from your house. To get to your house from Quincy I remember turning left at the Pamida store intersection. From there I'm a little fuzzy. Cheryl and Cindy, if you're going we could car pool. J
I'm in for tomorrow. Jean - should we meet down at Washington Park? Not sure how long it takes to get to Jeri's from there so not sure of a time. I can drive.
I am meeting Angie at Java jive in the morning and she will get us to Jeri's. That way my car is downtown and I can get us back to Jeri's. I am not ready for the run as I only ran one time this week. Had a tooth pulled Monday and still hurting some.
Karen you've been hanging around me too long and are starting to pick up my running style....never fear, we can start our serious training next week!!! I will see you at Java jive at 6:45 in the am. Jean and Cheryl, if you want you can meet us there and ride with us, otherwise, we will see you at Jeri's at 7. Angie
Directions from Quincy. Go toward Palmyra. Take 1st exit into Palmyra which is Hwy 168. You will exit to the right. At the top of the exit ramp turn right onto Hwy 168 - you will cross back over the highway shortly after you turn onto 168. Take 168 appx 5 miles. There will be a yellow caution sign as the road curves to the right. Right past this is a sign turn right onto county road 402 - you'll see a Riverview Manufacturing sign on the left. Go .8 - 1 mile to the 1st driveway to the right - again there is another Riverview Manuracturing sign. Turn right and go through the gate, up the hill and turn back left at the top of the hill into the woods. You'll see the house at the end of the drive. It should take about 20 minutes from Washington Park. The highway has been changed so you can't turn at Pamida anymore, hence new directions. Call if lost! You all probably know by now that Cindy won't be joining us. She left work around 1 on her way home because Melissa was in labor. Who knows, she may have a baby by now! See everyone tomorrow.
