Thanks for the well wishes. It has been a long day. Melissa called Thursday night as I was getting ready to go to bed to say she was having contractions about 30 minutes apart. Needless to say I didn't sleep well. Didn't hear anything so Kent and I went to work and she had a planned visit with her OB dr Friday morning. She called me late Friday morning to tell me contractions were 10 minutes apart but OB dr thought baby would be born on weekend but maybe not and would plan on inducing on Tuesday if baby not born by then. Kent and I talked to Melissa about 4 pm and decided we would leave early Saturday morning after getting a couple of hours of sleep. Nothing new about getting up at 4 am-right. Went ahead and was getting things ready for the trip when I got a text from Matt at 6 pm that contractions were 3 minutes apart and they were at hospital. So we left Quincy about 7:30 pm and were in touch with Meliss and Matt throughout the evening. Emmalee Louise was born at 10:51 pm and weight 7 lbs 11 oz (much bigger than the OB dr had predicted) and was 19 inches long. She has black hair like her dad but looks alot like Meliss and her brother Tyler when they were born. It is probably just as well that Mom was not there as we learned upon arriving Melissa had a unexpected crises of bleeding after the baby was born and Matt said it was very intense and frightening for a while but the doctors were able to get it under control and she is doing well but had to have some medications and IV antibiotics as precaution. Matt is staying with her and Emmalee at the hospital and plans are for them to come home Sunday. Kent and I are staying with the cats at their house and a friend who lives nearby who lived across the street from us when Melissa was a little girl has their dog. We really enjoyed getting to spend time with them and holding Emmalee today. Needless to say after driving all night I am ready for bed. The hospital is not very big but very nice and there is a view of the mountains and fire places in some of the waiting areas. there is snow is Melissa's yard and it was cool today but forecast is for 70 tomorrow. good luck on your race next week and how was this am run?
PS Also Emmalee was face up instead of face down and the doctor actually turned her before the delivery which Meliss and Matt described as interesting. I have heard of doctors doing that but Meliss said she doesn't want to experience that again.
Congratulations Cindy and Kent! Granbabies are such a gift...Dave says they're our reward for making it through parenthood (and getting older)! Glad Melissa and little Emmalee are doing well. Now the fun begins. I hope we see more pictures of the baby than we have of the wedding! J
Thanks Jean. Was wondering if your daughter and family are going to be affected by Hurricane Sandy. I have a niece age 22 who is a teacher in New York City and lives on Long Island. I haven't had a chance to check with my sister as to whether she has to evacuate. Hope your daughter and family will be safe.
Congrats Cindy and Kent! Hope Melissa and Emmalee were able to go home today. Probably better you were not there during Melissa's crisis.
Jeri had a beautiful route for Saturday although my calfs could feel those rolling hills this morning. So good to run with the girls on Saturday as it's been a long time for me. So excited for their 2nd marathon this weekend. I know they are all going to do well.
Just talked to our daughter. Everything there was closed through Wednesday, so her husband is home with them. They have been sending pictures and the water is already way up and they haven't even had the 2nd high tide yet. They live by the water but they are not in any danger of having it in their house. They are more worried about the wind taking down trees on their house. Right now they still have power. They are as prepared as possible. Still is making us nervous. J
Jean how are things with your daughter and her family. My niece is ok but does not know yet about her apartment and unable to get there until subways get back up running. The school she teaches at is closed. Really enjoying emmalee. Of course I am biased but she is pretty sweet. Melisssa is feeling better too. It has been beautiful here and I ran yesterday and today Just short ones but felt good to get out.
Good luck on your run this weekend. You ladies have fun too.
Cindy, aren't babies the best?! So glad you're getting to spend this time with her and Melissa. Our daughter made it through the storm with none of their trees down, but so many around them down that it has been a nightmare just to get out. They still have water covering the street that they exit on to. ConEd was by surveying the damage and they told them they can't even give them an estimation as to when they can give an estimation for the power coming on! Their neighbor has a generator so they have been able to store their food in his freezer. And Milton's brother got power back on pretty quickly (he lives in NY) so he is giving them his little generator so they can at least have space heaters going at night. Now they're trying to find gas. I am ready for the run! Can't get here fast enough. I looked at the weather and there is a chance of rain now, so bring a trash bag. See you, Angie and Karen, in the morning.
What a mess for your daughter, Jean. Glad they are okay now. Hard to imagine. Guess you guys read about all the NYC marathon runners signing up for Indy. I'll give you a call when I get there. Will keep my visit short tomorrow with my MIL and spend more time with her on Sunday.
Last day in Colorado and it is a beautiful day. Blue sky and temp of 70. Took their dog on a run this am. Emmalee is doing good. Congrats to everyone on their races and can't wait to get together and hear about it.
Cindy, we'll all be glad to see you! I remember coming home after Paige was born and being happy to be home but really missing her. It's hard to live so far away from grandchildren. Angie, Karen and I all decided we should all ignore the races going on this weekend and just get together and do our own Saturday run. How do the rest of you feel about that? Just a reminder, my other book club is sponsoring a band on Saturday night. You can come early and have dinner if you want and the dance starts at 8. If you can come, we'd love to have you! J
also Jean, Karen and I made an executive decision in the car on the way home from Indy and I placed an order on my phone from Walmart for hot pink long sleeve running shirts to get our saying put on at Christine's. with shipping they are going to be about $10.50. I have them already and will bring on Saturday. Cindy I know you like your shirts looser, so I ordered 2 different sizes and I can return the other one to the store. Angie
Just caught up on the blog and learned about Jean's daughter. I don't know why I didn't think of her. Did she get hit by the Noreaster (is that the well that is spelled?) I love your executive decision Angie and pink...how perfect! Also I saw Tom at work today and he says you have the 'bug' and another marathon is in your future! Our regular Sat. run, with no pressure, sounds great. Any ideas for a place and time? It will be good to run all together.Jeri
I will be there at 8 am. Thinking I will run 6 so I can hopefully get done by the time everyone else finishes. Angie- I doubt Tom is a damn liar???? See ya in the morning.
Don't worry about coming back at 8 am if it is to meet up with just me. I can run on the grounds of IVH and then meet up with you when you are done with your 10 miles. Just text me as to where you are going for coffee. Is Cheryl running tomorrow?

Jean-hope your daughters house made it through the rest of the storm.
