Karen, Cindy and Jeri, have a great time this weekend! Sorry I'm going to miss out on that big medal. Jeri, I know you're getting the award for your professional accomplishments, but you also deserve it for inspiring all of us with your running...we're all lucky to have you as a running mentor! You inspire me:)
hey guys. It doesn't seem like Friday night if I don't post on the blog. We are back at the hotel waiting to get into the resturant to carbo load! I am studying while we wait! The expo was tiny, the medal is cool and place winners in age groups get a bust of Lincoln! Jean, they have a category for those over 80! We will miss you and hope to have lots of stories to tell. Jeri
good luck tomorrow everyone! ! glad I'm not running 13 miles, how about you Jean?! I might mosey on down to Java Jive right before the track meet and get myself a big a ** carmel roll to eat while I'm sitting watching a bunch of kids throw metal balls..someone better come home with a trophy.
Cindy and Jean, are you both up for running/walking a real slow 10 with me on Saturday? We could do River Road since it's flat. Start at Clat Adams, and do 5, go back and pick up Karen (she's only going to do 5), so our first five wouldn't necessarily have to be out River road (as long as it's flat!). Then I think Cheryl is going to be able to meet us for breakfast. We could start at 7, and then have Karen meet us at 8, and Cheryl at 9 at wherever you birthday girls want to go!! What do you think? Angie
I would be up for doing a slow 10 miles as I have only went to spinclass once this week and then ran a cold 3 miles tonight. It was so windy. Don't like it cold-don't like it warm.
thanks Cindy! Jean told me at her hair appointment she would welcome a slow walk/run. I told her it would be real slow because of my lack of training. I will have you all know, today was day 6 in a row of running for me, still havent tracked down my mojo, but still trying.....Angie
Good luck Jeri! I will be at clat adams at 8am unless I hear otherwise. Haven't ran since the half, so we'll see. It is only 5 miles, I would like to think that I could manage that! Happy birthday Cindy and Jean!!!!!!
Angie, so you're starting your training program now? 6 days in a row...wow! I'm up for 10 miles tomorrow. And especially eating after. Jeri, we'll all be cheering for you on Monday. Hope the weather is about 40 with no wind. Have fun!
Happy Birthday Cindy and Jean. I am sorry I will miss the celebration breakfast. My bib # is 20868; keep expectations low. I hope St. Sebastian brings cool weather and a respectable run. Angie, 6 days in a row is impressive. Certainly earns a caramel roll...or two. Hope to see everyone next weekend. Jeri
What a sad day for the Boston Marathon. thankful that Jeri and Dan are safe. I can't imagine how frightening today was for the two of you and your families. Some of us were wondering why you had not finished and had not heard about the bombs. I think all of our hearts stopped for a few minutes while we tried to figure out where you were on the route once we did hear. The fear of the unknown. We were relieved and thankful. I don't know if you will see this tonight but wanted you to know we and a lot of other people are thinking of you.
FYI-BTG training group plans to meet at the Kroc Worship center at 9 am for prayer and then a moment of silence and then will run/walk for one mile in silence. Brian Pahlmann had on Facebook they will have the special bibs to honor Boston and I asked if a small group of us could come and he said anyone is welcomed and to come a little early to get bib. Not sure they will have pins.
I am game for the prayer and run. I am guessing we would just get our regular run in befor that. I am thinking about only doing 5-6 miles tomorrow because once again I didn't run all week. Somebody post time and place. If everyone else is doing 8 miles I could try to run that much, Cheryl i am counting on you to run tomorrow so I don't have to run as far!
I am planning on doing 8, but remember I run slow, probably 11:30-11:45 pace right now, so what time do we need to meet to get done in time to get to Kroc center in time for bibs? Cindy, are you running 8? Jeri, you could do 12 by the time I'm done with my 8. It's sure going to be good to see you, safe and sound. Want to just start at Clat Adams again? Karen and Cheryl, maybe you could meet us at the base of Einhaus lane, is there somewhere to park near there? I could give you guys a lift after our run. Someone post a time, I think its going to be cold again tonight. I'm sick of this weather. Angie
Angie-there is water over parts of north bottom road and not sure about clat adams yet. Might be better to meet downtown or near Kroc Center and run from there an out and back???either north or south 5th or maine street. thinking 8 as a total so would need to run 7 and then get to kroc by 8:45. if anyone has a suggestion about a route I am game as long as I don't have to wade through Mississippi River water. PS if you have boston marathon colors wear them.
I plan on joining you and concur with Cindy that we need to not plan on River Road due to water. How about we meet at Washington Park and head out Maine to 54th St. and back. I think that is about 8. I plan to run 12 so will gauge my time based on what time we start. Someone needs to decide what to start to get back to Kroc at 8:45 for the last mile. I'll check back. Jeri
I almost think we should start at 7 to get 8 miles in and get to the Kroc center. If Cheryl does not post tonight I will plan on meeting to do the entire 8. Otherwise, her and I can figure out what time to meet.
Well I was thinking we would run 7 miles and then do one mile with BTG. On their facebook page it looks like they are doing 1 mile for their 5k training group, a 5k for their 10k training group, and 10k for their half marathoners. Karen-Cheryl can only read posts and can't post she is fine with 5 or 6. So you might want to post and maybe text her to see what time u want to meet. I think we could start at 7:15 if we hit the road at 7:15???? But I am fine with meeting at 7 am also. Let me know what you think.
Cheryl and I are taking off at 7:45 and will see how far we get! Hoping for 5 plus the extra mile at Kroc center. If we finish ahead of you guys we'll wait for you at park! See everyone in the morning. I will try to remember extra safety pins!
FYI Brian had on facebook they would have bibs there tomorrow but if you want to print out your own you can go to runjunkees.com. I tried to print on our printer but couldn't. We always have problems with our printer.
I will plan on meeting at 7 at Washington Park and start with Cindy and Angie. I too will try to remember to bring pins! I don't know who gets the Heartland emails so have posted my race report here. I know...I did a damn race report. Just felt guilty with people praying for me and all. Thought I should say something. Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow and feeling like life is back to normal. Jeri Hi Heartland Road Runners – Count this as my first, last, and only race report I will write; but I wanted to let you all know how much I appreciate your thoughts and prayers during the tragedy at The Boston Marathon. It was a picture perfect marathon day. The hills were as bad as I remembered, but the roar of the Wellesley girls and the support of the crowds was as good as I remembered. So that is what I hope to keep in my memory of this marathon. After a year of anticipation, thousands of dollars for travel arrangements, hundreds of hours logged in training, for me the marathon stopped 4 blocks from the finish when the runners heard the explosions that we later learned occurred at the finish line. I am disappointed to come home without a medal but disappointment is just a feeling and this was just a race. I am grateful that the feeling I experienced was not devastation and I came home with both legs to race again if that is what I choose. So many people can’t make that choice. Thousands of runners waited on the course to 1st learn the race was delayed and then learn it was called and we would not run the remainder of the course. But that was about all we knew while waiting on the course. Many runners had cell phones and were checking twitter, face book, Google and the stories were flying. What I knew was that I could not let Dan know I was ok and I had no idea if what had occurred was close to where he was waiting for me. Runners shared cell phones so people could try to connect. Locals brought water and garbage bags to stave off the cold and dehydration. We learned about each other’s families and became a family as we shared a common experience, even if at the time we really didn’t know what it was. Dan was at the finish line and saw both explosions. At the finish line people were responding to the crisis so families didn’t know anything either. It was a scary hour or so until we connected again near the hotel and learned we were both ok. Again, I am grateful that we found each other at our hotel and not at a hospital like so many others. St. Sebastian, lucky pennies, luck of the Irish, fate, destiny…whatever you like to call it, I am happy to be home, safe and able to lace up my shoes in the morning and go for a run as the sun rises. Those who can’t and the city of Boston are now a part of me. Jeri Conboy
