  • Jean and I were wondering if any of you guys would be interested in getting season tickets to the community theater so we could do dinner and theater show next year. It's $78 for the year for 5 shows. post if interested. Angie

  • January 20 is Angie's birthday...a big one...so we decided we should do a run. How about the Frozen Buns Run in St. Louis on January 19th? It's a 5 or 10 k and it's only $20 if you register before the end of the year. Who's in?

  • I'm in on the run. It will give me the motivation I need to actually go out and run! May be interested in the theater. Still thinking on it.

  • I am in on the run. Register online? I already have season tickets to QCT. Next season should be a good one. I know Jean is out of town for the next 2 weekends. Anyone interested in running in Hannibal on Saturday? I'm going to try to get to STL. to do some shopping after we run (assuming we do). Cindy has great baby pics to show off! I'll go with whatever distance is the consensus. I hope you can join us Cheryl. We miss you. Jeri

  • I'm in for Hannibal! Hope I don't drink too much at my Christmas party tonight -wouldn't want it to interfere with my running abilities tomorrow ;) Angie

By Anonymous Anonymous, At December 7, 2012 at 4:33 PM

  • Hannibal is fine with me. Time and place??

By Anonymous Karen, At December 7, 2012 at 8:18 PM

  • Cindy said she is having internet issues - can read but not post. Hannibal is ok with her as well. How about Java Jive at 7:30? We can decide where and how far when we get there. Drink one for me Angie! Don't forget your Big A medals to show Cindy and Cheryl. See you all tomorrow. Jeri

  • I didn't know if you all got the Heartland emails so I copied and pasted this fyi. This might be fun with dinner afterward. We can discuss Saturday if there is interest. I don't know if Jean will be back. Also I'll mention this now...I will be out of town on Sat.12-22, so would anyone be interested in running on Sun 12-23 instead or both days? Who is running Saturday. Jeri

Greetings Fellow Runners and Happy Holidays!

On Tuesday December 18th beginning at 4:30 p.m. the Heartland Road Runners & Walkers Club are invited to run (or fast walk) the 1.8 miles through the Avenue of the Lights…for free. We can thank Charlie Bach for convincing the owners John & Linda Groves for allowing us this rare opportunity. I spoke with John Groves this evening and here is what he said. We are welcome to arrive and begin our run at 4:30 p.m. All runners must start by 5:00 p.m. He pleads that all of us be off the route by 5:20 p.m. since this is the peak week for his business.

The total loop is 1.8-miles. Come to the 36th Street entrance and they will direct you where to park. Please don’t miss this once in a lifetime chance. Tell your non-club member running friends about this opportunity and bring them along. I already told my DSW (who was heading to the treadmill to run/walk 30 minutes) about this event. Membership applications will be available.

Finally, I ask all of you who can…to wait for us back-of-the-packers to finish so around until 5:20 so we can take a group picture at the entrance on 36th Street under the big Happy Holiday sign. I plan to bring some appropriate refreshment and treats to share. It would be a good time to bring some Christmas cookies to share. (P.S. Snicker doodles are a favorite of mine).

I hope all of you can get Scrooge to let you off an hour early from work this Tuesday so you can join us in the fun. Wouldn’t it be something if all 145 households of the Heartland Road Runners & Walkers Club showed up for this event.

Gotta Run (through the Avenue of Lights)

PS – My camera does not take good pictures in low light (but I’m bringing it for some “on the run” photos of you. Could a few of you amateur photographers scope out the site and come prepared with what we need to make the group photo a Club Christmas Card a keeper for years to come. Thanks.

PPS – remember to especially thank Charlie Bach and John & Linda Groves when you see them. A few extra cookies (or a cup of cheer) might be appreciated by them.

PPPS – I think there is a long range forecast for the first snow next week. Wouldn’t that be special.

  • I would love to do the run, I would however, have to cancel and reschedule my evening on Tuesday from 4-10. I am actually trying to figure out if I could make it work, I would have to switch 3 color appointments, 2 of which switch on me ALL the time. I think I am going to give it a shot, I will post tomorrow and let you all know if it works out for me. Haven't been able to make myself get out to run this week...would be nice to have a reason during the week to get out. Angie

  • I'm running on Tuesday -anyone else in? could be a fun Christmas run together! Angie

By Anonymous Anonymous, At December 13, 2012 at 1:03 PM

  • Not sure if Cindy can post but she is planning on it and so am I. Karen can you cut out early and join us. The email chain from Heartland suggests parking at Vatterott and running from there. Sounds like cookies will be available. I thought dinner and drinks after would be fun if schedules allow. What about Saturday plans....any takers? JEri

  • I'm in for Saturday, dinner on Tuesday as well. Karen can't cut out and join us unfortunately. I'm getting festive with my holiday running attire- I hope you guys join me ;) Angie

  • I plan on being there Tuesday. Saturday is a maybe but hope to.

  • Yippee I could post something. Never know if it is going last though. Adams is coming to the house next week to see what can be done-may have to change internet provider.

  • I'm in for Tuesday.

  • YEAH CHERYL!!!! Does anyone know if Jean will be back in town yet? Cheryl can you run with us on Saturday? Are we doing Hannibal or Quincy, what's the preference? In any case, I need Jeri, Cindy and Cheryl's pink shirt and I will try to go to get them printed with our saying...Angie, so if nothing else, bring them on Tuesday

By Anonymous Anonymous, At December 14, 2012 at 7:37 AM

  • I'm bummed to miss Tuesday's run but we won't be back yet. Went to the bronx zoo today and Dave hurt his back. We're supposed to go to a Broadway show tomorrow but he can't hardly move right now.
Have a good run this weekend and I'll see you all next weekend. J

By Anonymous Anonymous, At December 14, 2012 at 7:10 PM

  • I am ok running either Quincy or Hannibal, but have things I need to do in Quincy so will end up there either way! I am sad to think I will miss Tuesday so I am going to see what I can do! Someone post a time and place for tomorrow. Hoping we don't get rained on in the morning.

By Anonymous Karen, At December 14, 2012 at 7:34 PM

  • Washington Park @ 7:30? We could run out Maine to 54th and then out to Columbus Rd and back. Not sure how far that is but a guess would be between 8-9 miles. It is pouring here now but hopefully will be done by morning. I'll check back to see the plan. Jean, sorry about Dave's back. Hope he is feeling better and you get to B'way. I'm sure you are enjoying your visit. Jeri

By Blogger Jeri, At December 14, 2012 at 9:38 PM

  • Sorry to hear about Dave's back Jean. How close does your daughter live to where the shootings were in CT? How tragic is that?!? So very sad and senseless.

By Blogger CherylR, At December 14, 2012 at 9:49 PM

  • That is sad and tragic. Jean, Dave hurting his back is also tragic and I hope he recovers soon. I will be at Washington park at 7:30!

By Anonymous Karen, At December 14, 2012 at 10:04 PM

  • I have my doubts that I will be there tomorrow morning as I keep thinking about what I all need to do before Christmas. Kent and I went Christmas shopping tonight and put a dent in it. It wasn't busy at all. So I am toying with getting up early to finish shopping. If I decide to run will text someone. I have had lower back issues this week and have only ran once and it was short and no hills. My back is better. I am planning on Tuesday's run.

By Anonymous cindy lou who, At December 14, 2012 at 10:12 PM

  • Hope to see you in the am Cindy. If not to run, maybe for breakfast. Jeri

By Blogger Jeri, At December 14, 2012 at 10:20 PM

  • Crap! 8-9 miles...be there in the morning. Angie

By Anonymous Anonymous, At December 14, 2012 at 11:44 PM

  • Having lower back issues this morning; always better as the day goes on. Text me where you are going for coffee and if I am in town will meet you.

By Anonymous cindy lou who, At December 15, 2012 at 6:41 AM

  • Jen and family do live very close to Newton. It's tragic. I can't watch any more news coverage ...too much crying. Looks like I will be baking cookies with six 2 year olds since Dave won't be able to go to the show. On a day like today, they will be a welcome ray of sunshine.

By Anonymous Anonymous, At December 15, 2012 at 7:53 AM

  • Jean-I know what you mean. I had to turn it off the morning as I found myself crying and then felt guilty because can't imagine what these families are going through and will be faced with for the rest of their lives. They can't just turn off the TV to feel better. Tell Dave sorry about his back; mine has cut into exercising and as long as I am vertical I don't feel too bad. Thanks to the running girls for inviting this sorry soul to have breakfast with them. I am truly feeling like a slug. Working on the Grinch tree and it looking pretty cute. Angie-awesome bargain this morning.

  • See all who can at the Avenue of the Lights tomorrow. I have packed every conceivable piece of running gear since I can't figure out what the weather will be! JEri

By Blogger Jeri, At December 17, 2012 at 10:05 PM

  • I will not make it to the run tonight. Work is crazy and with Katie out I need to be here. Yesterday they tried to close the agency early and I had to intervene and say no. I am afraid if I left today they would shut down the place! Hope to see everyone this weekend.
